Are you conducting academic research in Rome during the 2025–2026 academic year? Here’s your chance to join one of the most prestigious research communities in Italy — the British School at Rome (BSR) is now accepting applications for its Associate Fellowships.
These non-stipendiary, non-residential fellowships are designed for early-career or established scholars who already have external funding or institutional support. The BSR Associate Fellowships provide a formal affiliation and full access to an international scholarly community without the need for BSR-funded residency or stipend.

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must meet at least one of the following:
- Be a British or Commonwealth citizen
- Hold a PhD awarded by a UK university
- Be an established scholar at a UK university (any nationality)
Additional requirements include:
- Being physically based in Rome during the Fellowship
- Holding at least a first university degree at the time of application
- Ability to provide proof of eligibility (nationality, residency, or employment)
Selection Criteria
Applications will be assessed on:
- Academic value and feasibility of the proposed research
- Relevance to the BSR’s location and resources
- Candidate’s academic record and potential for future contributions
- Fit with the BSR’s interdisciplinary community
- Contribution to promoting Italian studies in Britain and the Commonwealth
