The Centre for Advanced Study (CAS) in Oslo, in collaboration with the Young Academy of Norway (AYF) and supported by The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (DNVA), is now inviting ambitious young researchers from around the globe to apply for the prestigious Young CAS Grant 2025.

What is the Young CAS Grant?
The Young CAS Grant (YCG) empowers early-career scholars to step into the spotlight as project leaders. It offers a rare opportunity: two exceptional projects will be selected to receive up to NOK 750,000 (around $68,000 USD) in funding over two years — from January 2026 to December 2027.
This highly competitive grant supports residential fellowships that help you form an elite team of international researchers, deepen your theoretical research focus, and experience the role of a research leader at one of Europe’s most prestigious independent research centers.

Who Can Apply?
You are eligible if you:
- Hold a PhD degree and are under 40 years old by the application deadline (extensions allowed for statutory leaves, military service, or health issues).
- Hold a full-time academic position at a CAS partner institution during the grant period (position can be temporary and transferable).
- Have a passion for basic, curiosity-driven research aiming to challenge and expand the frontiers of your field.
- Preferably have some project leadership experience (but it’s not mandatory).
Note: Applicants currently employed in temporary positions are also eligible, provided their employment covers at least the first year of the project.

The Young CAS Grant welcomes all fields of research, provided your project:
- Advances fundamental theoretical understanding.
- Challenges established knowledge.

- Aligns with CAS’ mission to foster academic excellence without political, commercial, or ideological agendas.
⚡ Projects involving fieldwork, data collection, or lab work are welcome as long as the CAS stay focuses on theoretical development.
What’s the Structure?

Throughout, CAS will provide meeting spaces, technical support, daily lunches, and vibrant research community engagement.
Funding Breakdown
- Workshops: NOK 250,000 (~$22,800)
- Research Stay: NOK 500,000 (~$45,600)
Covered costs include travel, accommodation, meals during workshops and stays, partial teaching replacement, and administrative support.
Bonus: Accommodation for PIs and team members outside Oslo will be additionally covered — no need to include it in your project budget!
