The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has officially opened applications for its prestigious Summer 2025 Internship Program, offering a unique opportunity for students, recent graduates, and veterans to immerse themselves in the field of U.S. trade policy and international economic affairs.
This highly sought-after internship is based at the USTR headquarters in Washington, D.C., and provides first-hand exposure to the inner workings of trade negotiations, policy research, and intergovernmental collaboration. Although unpaid, the internship includes a local transportation subsidy, making it more accessible for applicants commuting to the nation’s capital.

Interns will work across multiple USTR departments and can expect responsibilities that range from:

Who Can Apply?
Applicants must be U.S. citizens aged 18 or older by the start of the program. They must also meet one of the following criteria:
- Be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program (2- or 4-year institution).
- Have graduated from such a program no more than two years before the program’s start.
- Be a U.S. military veteran with a high school diploma or equivalent, and discharged no more than two years prior.
Important Note: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service System.
Internship Duration and Workload
The Summer 2025 program runs from June 9 to August 15, 2025. Interns can apply for:
- Full-time roles (minimum 35 hours/week)
- Part-time roles (15–34 hours/week)
All work must be performed on-site in Washington, D.C., as remote work options are not available, and relocation or housing assistance is not provided. USTR supports students seeking academic credit for the internship. While the agency does not arrange credit independently, it will coordinate with your institution upon request.
