Taiwan Government Global Fellowship Opening on May 1, 2025

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has just announced that applications for the prestigious Taiwan Fellowship 2025 will officially open from May 1 to July 30, 2025. This is an exceptional research opportunity for global scholars in the humanities and social sciences to immerse themselves in academic life in Taiwan—with generous stipends and travel support included.


What is the Taiwan Fellowship?

The Taiwan Fellowship is a fully-funded academic opportunity aimed at promoting international research related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, China, the Asia Pacific region, and Sinology. Scholars accepted into the program will conduct their research at top-tier Taiwanese universities, research centers, or academic institutions.

This program is an initiative of Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen academic ties and promote scholarly understanding of the region on a global scale.


Taiwan Global Fellowship Benefits Package Include

Recipients of the fellowship are awarded the following:

1# Monthly Stipend:

    • NT$60,000 (~US$1,850) for professors, associate professors, and equivalent research fellows
    • NT$50,000 (~US$1,540) for assistant professors, postdocs, and doctoral students.

2# Round-trip Economy Class Flight Subsidy:

    • Up to NT$35,000 (~US$1,080) for travel to and from Taiwan (reimbursed upon submission of receipts and boarding passes).

3# Research Duration:

    • Minimum of 3 months and maximum of 12 months
    • Research period must begin no earlier than January 1, 2025, and conclude no later than December 31, 2025.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the Taiwan Fellowship 2025, applicants must be:

  • Foreign nationals (non-Taiwanese citizens)
  • Professors, associate or assistant professors, postdoctoral researchers, or doctoral candidates
  • Enrolled in or affiliated with an academic institution abroad
  • Engaged in fields related to social sciences or humanities, with research topics centered on:
    • Taiwan
    • Cross-strait relations
    • Mainland China
    • Asia Pacific region
    • Sinology.

Note: Scholars who are already conducting research, studying, or teaching in Taiwan are ineligible.


Required Application Documents for Application Submission

Applicants must prepare and submit the following to apply for Taiwan global fellowship 2025:

  1. Online application form: Complete at http://taiwanfellowship.ncl.edu.tw and print a hard copy
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV) with a list of publications
  3. Research Proposal: ~3 pages following standard academic format
  4. Two letters of recommendation, or one letter of recommendation and one letter of consent from the institute’s head
