In response to sweeping graduate funding cuts across U.S. universities, Queen’s University—a globally renowned, research-intensive powerhouse in Canada—is stepping up with a Special U.S. Doctoral Recruitment Initiative designed to support 20 outstanding PhD candidates for the 2025/26 academic year.

This unique scholarship initiative is tailor-made for students whose original U.S. PhD plans were disrupted. Whether you’re American, Canadian, or from another part of the world, if your offer from a top 100 U.S. university was revoked or you’re reconsidering it due to instability—Queen’s wants YOU.

Who’s Eligible?

This initiative is open to any student (international or domestic) who meets the following:

  1. Had a PhD offer rescinded or is reconsidering a funded PhD offer from a top 100 U.S. university or college (as per QS Rankings or Times Higher Education).
  2. Can secure a committed faculty supervisor at Queen’s University.
  3. Meets the standard admission requirements for a Queen’s PhD program.

How to Apply: Step-by-Step

  1. Find a Supervisor
    Browse Queen’s graduate programs and reach out to a prospective supervisor in your research field. Send them your CV, academic transcript, proposed research statement, and a copy of your rescinded or reconsidered offer letter from a U.S. institution.

  2. Get Confirmation

  3. Submit the Intake Form
    Complete the intake form with your intended program, proposed supervisor’s name, and upload your U.S. offer and funding documents.

  4. Wait for Review
    The School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs will review your file. If eligible, you’ll receive an official invitation to complete a full application for admission.
