Background & Job Description
The African Development Bank (AfDB), established in 1964, stands as one of Africa’s most influential development finance institutions. With 81 member states, including 54 from the African continent, AfDB drives social and economic transformation across Africa. The 2025 Internship Programme (Second Session) reflects the Bank’s commitment to nurturing young talent through its broader Talent Management Framework and Ten-Year Strategy aligned with the “High 5s” priorities (Light Up and Power Africa, Feed Africa, Industrialize Africa, Integrate Africa, and Improve the Quality of Life for the People of Africa).
This internship initiative is designed to provide postgraduate students and recent graduates with professional experience in a top-tier development institution. While interns will not be automatically offered a job after completing the program, they will gain practical skills, visibility, and opportunities that may lead to future roles within AfDB or related international organizations.
The second session of the 2025 internship program is set to begin in July 2025. The Bank is seeking passionate and qualified individuals whose academic and professional interests align with its operational areas.
Tasks
Interns will be assigned to various departments depending on the Bank’s current operational needs. Potential tasks include:

Conducting research and drafting policy papers or internal reports

Participating in project design, implementation, and monitoring

Supporting analytical and statistical tasks in data-driven departments

Contributing to program assessments, sector studies, and feasibility analysis

Assisting with communication, human resources, or IT-related projects
-
Providing administrative support, logistics coordination, and report writing
-
Supporting procurement processes and governance-related tasks
-
Participating in Bank-wide initiatives related to inclusive growth, gender equity, or climate resilience
Interns are expected to deliver high-quality outputs in line with the AfDB’s strategic priorities and contribute meaningfully to the development agenda.
Qualifications
Education and Certification

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a master’s or equivalent postgraduate degree program, or must have completed one within the past year (12 months).

Experience

No prior full-time work experience is required; however, evidence of relevant academic, volunteer, or internship experience is a plus

Candidates must be nationals of AfDB member countries (see list below)

Must be proficient in English or French, the Bank’s two working languages

Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential

Knowledge of SAP systems is an added advantage

A certificate of enrollment or recent graduation must be provided

The internship will last between 3 to 6 months, beginning July 2025

Work can be remote or on-site (depending on department needs)

Remote interns must ensure they have access to a stable internet connection and laptop

On-site interns will work from AfDB headquarters or country offices
