Who’s Eligible?
- Early-career researchers with a completed PhD (or equivalent experience) by fellowship start
- Applicants must not hold a permanent or tenure-track academic position
- Research must focus on AI’s implications for the science and research ecosystem, not on direct AI tool development
- Open to international applicants, with preference for US and Canadian host institutions
- Canadian applicants apply via the Sloan portal and are eligible for SSHRC funding
- Women, Black, Indigenous, and Latine applicants are especially encouraged to apply.
What Projects Will Be Funded?
Your research should explore how AI is transforming science, focusing on one or more of the following:
- Changes to research methodology and workflows due to AI adoption
- The epistemic, ethical, and socioeconomic implications of AI in science
- The role of governments and funders in guiding AI-mediated research
- Questions like:
- How does AI affect the pace of scientific progress?
- What training and skills will tomorrow’s scientists need?
- What is the role of human intuition in AI-driven discoveries?
