Manitoba Canada 2 Year Extended Work Permit Policy Released for 2025

In a game-changing move that’s set to electrify skilled workers and immigrants across the world, the Manitoba government has unveiled a bold new policy: a two-year, Manitoba-specific work permit extension! If you’ve been dreaming of living, working, and permanently settling in Canada’s heartland, this could be your golden moment.

Here’s everything you need to know about this major immigration update and how you can make the most of it.

A New Dawn for Workers and Manitoba’s Economy

Labour and Immigration Minister Malaya Marcelino announced that beginning April 22, 2025, eligible candidates whose work permits expired in 2024 or will expire in 2025 can now apply for a special two-year work permit extension under a temporary public policy.

“By allowing eligible candidates to extend their work permits, we’re helping more Manitoba workers and families to continue building their lives here,” said Marcelino. “This is good news for our economy, businesses, and communities across Manitoba.”

This powerful initiative not only helps skilled workers stabilize their futures but also fuels Manitoba’s growing economy by retaining talent that is crucial to businesses and industries across the province.

Who Can Apply: Eligibility Criteria

This temporary public policy will remain open until December 31, 2025, but only those who meet specific conditions will be eligible. Here’s the breakdown:

1# Work Permit Status

You qualify if you:

    • Hold a valid work permit that will expire in 2025, or
    • Held a valid work permit on May 7, 2024, which has since expired and:
      • Have applied for a new work permit under section 200, or
      • Have applied for an extension of temporary resident status under section 181, or
      • Have applied for restoration of status under section 182, or
      • Were authorized to work under paragraph 186(u) and have since applied for a new work permit or extension.

2# Additional Manitoba-Specific Conditions

Candidates must also demonstrate that:

    • They had a valid Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) Expression of Interest (EOI) profile on January 15, 2025, and still have one.
    • They resided in Manitoba prior to January 15, 2025 and have continuously lived there.
    • They are currently employed in Manitoba, with an employer willing to issue a letter of employment.
    • They intend to permanently settle in Manitoba.

How to Apply?

Starting April 22, 2025, qualified individuals can apply for a Support Letter through Manitoba’s online portal.

Required documents for submission:

    • A Letter of Employment from your Manitoba employer.*
    • A copy of your current work permit, authorization to work, or proof of your expired work permit along with proof of restoration application.
    • A copy of your MPNP Expression of Interest profile.

If successful, the Support Letter will allow you to apply for a two (02) year Manitoba-specific work permit, helping you bridge the gap until you secure permanent residency.
