IV Fellowship 2025 at Toronto International Festival of Authors

A transformative opportunity has just opened for publishing professionals worldwide to connect with Canada’s vibrant literary scene. The prestigious International Visitors (IV) Programme, hosted during the Toronto International Festival of Authors, has launched its 2025 call for applications, with a deadline of May 22, 2025. Now entering its 18th year, the IV Programme offers unmatched exposure to Canadian publishing, inter-industry exchange, and global rights development.


What Is the IV Programme?

Dubbed an “informal rights fair,” the IV Programme has become one of the most influential initiatives in Canadian literature’s international outreach. Launched in 2008, it has welcomed over 300 publishing fellows from around the globe, creating lasting partnerships, sparking the publication of Canadian works abroad, and fostering a rich dialogue on industry challenges and opportunities.

The 2025 edition runs from October 28 to November 1, within the frame of the Toronto International Festival of Authors (TIFA) (October 29–November 2, 2025). Over five days, fellows engage in structured pitch meetings, trend briefings, rights acquisition discussions, and curated networking events.


Who Should Apply?

There are two fellowship streams available:

1# International Visitors (IV) Fellowship:”Open to international acquiring editors, agents, and scouts who:

    • Represent Canadian authors or
    • Acquire Canadian titles for their market

Applicants must submit a one-page letter detailing:

    • Current role and experience
    • Editorial interests
    • Canadian titles/authors worked with
    • Motivation for applying

2# Canadian Fellowship: Designed for mid-career Canadian publishing professionals in:

    • Editorial
    • Subsidiary rights
    • Literary agencies
      (With at least three years of experience)

Applicants must include:

    • Current résumé
    • A letter of recommendation from a senior industry professional

Funding Benefits

Selected fellows will:

    • Be brought to Toronto for the full duration of the programme
    • Gain exclusive access to high-level literary business events
    • Build long-term connections with key players in the global publishing industry

The application period for the 2025 IV Programme runs from April 22 to May 22, 2025. Successful applicants will be notified in early June 2025, and the final list of selected fellows will be announced publicly in August 2025.
