Are you passionate about music, cognitive science, and interdisciplinary research? The University of York’s School of Arts and Creative Technologies is offering an exciting, fully funded PhD studentship in Music Cognition, with a special focus on qualitative research and organology, as part of the Horizon Europe – ERC Synergy Project “REM@KE” (Reconstructing Embodied Musical Knowledge at the Keyboard).
This prestigious international opportunity will connect you with research hubs in Italy, Sweden, and the UK, where you’ll work alongside leading scholars in music cognition, historical musicology, organology, psychoacoustics, digital humanities, and more!
About the REM@KE Project
The REM@KE initiative explores the role of embodied knowledge in keyboard musicianship and instrument making across history. The selected PhD candidate will lead qualitative investigations—conducting interviews with performers, builders, educators, and listeners—aimed at better understanding the physical, cognitive, and emotional interactions between humans and historical keyboard instruments. These findings will also inform the digital and physical reconstruction of such instruments.
