What Is the Fellowship All About?
Hosted by the Department of English Language & Literature within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, this fellowship is part of a broader initiative to nurture the next generation of academics. Ten fixed-term posts are up for grabs – two three-year roles and eight two-year roles – designed to support early-career researchers in building a strong foundation in both teaching and academic research.
The successful candidate will join a university steeped in legacy, with alumni like Nobel Laureates and literary legends, and a department recognized globally for its excellence in English literary studies. Funding Package & Salary Benefits
Fellows appointed to this role will receive:
- Annual Salary: £44,355 – £51,735 (inclusive of London Weighting Allowance)
- Contract Duration: Full-time fixed term until 31 August 2028

Essential Requirements

- A PhD awarded within the last seven (07) years in a relevant field
- Strong research focus on English literature from 1800 to the present
- Experience in teaching undergraduate modules, particularly in subjects like:
- Writing London
- Reading Poetry
- Introduction to American Literature
- Writing Race, Writing Gender
- Introduction to Eighteenth-Century Literature: Gothic
- Demonstrated research potential with scope for high-quality publications and future grants
- Some experience with academic administration and/or collaborative networking
Desirable Qualifications

- Higher education teaching certification (e.g., Associate Fellowship or Fellowship of the HEA)
- Experience designing or delivering online teaching content.
