Located in Germany, HZDR is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position (f/m/d) in Structured Light within its Department of Laser Particle Acceleration, part of the Institute of Radiation Physics.

What Will You Work On?
As a PhD student in this project, you will:
- Characterize laser beam structures like radial group delay (RGD) and spatiotemporal coupling (STC)
- Design optical components (e.g., doublet lenses and axi-parabolas)
- Execute laser wakefield acceleration experiments using advanced “flying focus” laser geometries
- Analyze experimental data and present your work in scientific journals and international forums.
Who is Eligible?
You’re encouraged to apply if you meet the following criteria:
- Hold a Master’s or Diploma degree in Physics or a related field
- Have knowledge of nonlinear optics, laser physics, or photonics
- Practical experience in any of the following is a plus:
- Femtosecond laser systems & diagnostics
- High-power laser setups and ultrahigh vacuum systems
- Programming skills (LabVIEW, Python)
- Excellent English communication skills (German is a bonus)
- Ability to collaborate within interdisciplinary and multicultural research teams.
