Cuba’s eVisa System Still Active in May 2025 (Verified)

Travelers planning their Caribbean getaway, rejoice! As of May 2025, Cuba’s revolutionary electronic visa system (eVisaCuba) remains fully operational and is now the official and mandatory gateway for most international tourists heading to the island.

Originally launched in August 2024, following a pilot phase in July 2024, the eVisaCuba platform was designed to modernize and replace the traditional “Tarjeta del Turista” (Tourist Card), providing a faster and more secure visa application experience online.

What Is the Purpose of Cuba’s eVisa as of May 2025?

The Cuban eVisa was created to:

  • Digitize the visa process and improve efficiency.
  • Enhance border security and pre-arrival screening.
  • Simplify travel arrangements for international visitors.
  • Phase out the paper-based tourist card by July 1, 2025.

Who Needs to Apply?

All non-Cuban international travelers—with the exception of most Canadian tourists flying directly from Canada—must apply for the eVisa to enter Cuba. Canadian travelers benefit from an integrated visa arrangement included in airline ticket bookings.
