Background & Job Description
The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) is inviting applications for its 2026 Internship Programme, specifically targeting youth residing within the city. This opportunity is designed to support students and recent graduates in fulfilling the practical requirements of their academic qualifications while gaining hands-on work experience in the public sector.
This internship is hosted by the Group Citizen Relationship and Urban Management Department (CRUM), under the Citizen Relations and Interface Branch. The program aims to improve service delivery and community engagement across Johannesburg’s regions. It provides an ideal platform for interns to contribute to local government objectives while developing critical workplace competencies.
The internship duration is up to 18 months, and it is available to students who have not previously taken part in a similar internship, unless the previous placement was in an unrelated field.
Tasks
Interns will be placed within the Integrated Service Delivery and Stakeholder Interface Unit. Key responsibilities will include:

Providing administrative support across CRUM departmental functions.

Supporting initiatives to enhance service delivery at regional and municipal levels.

Managing and maintaining internal and external stakeholder communications.

Compiling and presenting statutory qualitative and quantitative reports.

Assisting with general coordination and support duties within the citizen relations and urban management framework.
These tasks will offer interns a rich learning experience in public administration, urban governance, and stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
To qualify for the internship, candidates must:

Hold a Grade 12/Matric certificate and a completed or final-year National Diploma or Degree (minimum 360 credits) in one of the following or related fields:

Be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

Be a resident of Johannesburg.

Experience
No prior work experience is required, but applicants who have previously participated in:

Internships (in unrelated fields),
-
Bursary programmes,
-
EPWP (Expanded Public Works Programme),

Learnerships,
may be given preference if they meet all the requirements.

Remuneration
This is a paid internship. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of R10,109.86 (excluding benefits), making this a financially supportive opportunity for youth pursuing career development in the public sector.
