The prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, in collaboration with DAAD, is inviting highly qualified researchers to apply for the Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers – one of the most generous and flexible research grants in Europe.


What Is the Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers?

This fellowship supports international scientists and scholars from all disciplines who completed their doctorates within the last 12 years. It allows them to conduct independent research in collaboration with a German host institution for 6 to 18 months.

Researchers from any country (except Brazil) are eligible to apply and must demonstrate a strong research profile — typically at the level of assistant professor or junior research group leader — or show proof of independent research over several years.


Who Can Apply?

  • International researchers from all disciplines and nationalities (except Brazil).
  • Doctorate completed within the last 12 years.
  • Strong publication record in internationally recognized journals or by publishers.
  • Confirmed academic host in Germany with a detailed letter of invitation.
  • At least 12 months spent outside Germany in the 18 months prior to application.
  • Proficiency in German or English, depending on the field.

⚠️ Applicants with German citizenship are eligible only if their primary work and residence have been abroad for at least 5 years.

Application Deadline

There is no fixed deadline – applications are accepted year-round. However, the Selection Committee reviews applications two times annually: July, and November, 2025. So, apply well in advance of these meetings to ensure timely consideration.
